Using Vocabulary Worksheet Factory with Non-English Languages

Are you a language teacher? Or perhaps your local language isn't English? Though our software has been designed for and tested as English-only programs, over the years we have tried to expand the flexibility of the programs so educators can use other languages when creating education materials.

Vocabulary Worksheet Factory works well with a variety of languages (i.e. French, German, Spanish). In version 6 the sample word lists, sentence collections, or text files are in English, but you will be able to create your own vocabulary data.

To the get most out of the Vocabulary WF program with non-English languages, follow these two recommendations:

  • Set the program spell checker to your language if available. Open the program but not a worksheet. Select Application Options on the ribbon to open the Vocabulary program options. Select Spelling, then click the drop-down list to see the available spell checking dictionary options.
Application Options - Spelling
  • With the Vocabulary program options window open, set the program to the alphabet and script for the language you will be using. Many activities (i.e. Cloze, Word Search, Cryptogram) will not work correctly if the appropriate alphabet and script are not selected. Select Language to access the these settings. The alphabet and script for a variety of languages is already provided, but if your language is not listed, use one of the Custom options to add the alphabet and script you need.

Once the preferred spell checker, alphabet and script have been selected, you can build your text, sentences, and word list files to create worksheets for your students.
